CLARISSA’S
STORY
WHY DO I CREATE?
I always felt there was a greater purpose beyond myself. I was fortunate to feel this as a young adult, which motivated me to use my skills for good.
From Grief to Design: My Journey Through Art and Architecture
I grew up drawing from television and book characters.
I was born in Houston, Texas in the late '80s and spent my childhood navigating the colorful culture of the '90s and early 2000s. My passion for art was born out of loss—in 1999, at the age of twelve, I began drawing as a way to cope with my grandfather’s passing. My first sketchbook quickly filled with cartoon characters like Tweety Bird, giving me a creative outlet to express emotions I couldn’t yet articulate.
In middle school, I discovered a love for presentation design. I still remember my first project: a display board on Henry Ford, complete with images of his iconic vehicles. That attention to visual storytelling stayed with me. By high school, my interests expanded into digital creativity—especially designing dream homes in The Sims. What began as play became a passion for architectural thinking and spatial design.
My college years were a deep dive into that passion. I transferred to the University of Houston as a sophomore, eager to pursue a creative path. Over six years, I explored everything from architecture and photography to psychology and graphic design, ultimately earning my BA in Art. Wanting to push further into the digital realm, I pursued graduate studies in digital media.
A year ago, I took one final step to bring everything full circle: I began working toward a degree in interior architecture. It’s the perfect synthesis of my lifelong passions—for art, for space, for people, and for design that makes life better.
Now, with nearly three degrees, a lifetime of artistic growth, and a desire to positively impact the world, I’m ready for what comes next. This journey is still unfolding—and there’s so much more to create.
